Vacuum-bagging film is selected for maximum cure temperature, ramp, dwell, exotherm, elongation and sealant-tape compatibility.
Short answer
Film temperature class should include a safety margin above the oven/autoclave set point and retain mechanical properties throughout the cycle. A “maximum temperature” label alone is insufficient.
Why does it matter?
Resin exotherm or tool surface may exceed the set point. Film that softens, embrittles or lacks elongation can leak or tear.

Selection steps
Evaluate the complete cure graph together with bag geometry.
- Actual maximum part/tool temperature
- Ramp and dwell duration
- Vacuum or autoclave pressure
- Film elongation and puncture resistance
- Compatibility with sealant tape and hoses
Application safety margin
Support sharp corners, provide adequate pleats and never seal stretched film. All single-use consumables must suit the temperature class.
Frequently asked questions
Is a 120°C film enough for a 120°C cycle?
Not always. Allow for measurement uncertainty, exotherm and local hot spots.
Is a higher-temperature film always better?
No. Cost, drape, sealing and process ease also matter.
